Amy Winehouse Back To Black Album Sales Rocket On iTunes

After the tragic death of Amy Winehouse, her Back To Black album sales have skyrocketed once more. The multiplatinum, multiple Grammy Award-winning LP, released in 2006, is now the No. 1 selling album on iTunes and sales have increased by 37 times. Although fans may want to reminisce and and listen to the lovely voice of the international singing sensation, one has to wonder if sudden promotion of her album following her passing is all in good taste.

On iTunes, where three Amy Winehouse projects are currently among the top 10 best-selling albums (Back To Black (#1), Frank (#3), and Back To Black: B-Sides (#7), a “Remembering Amy Winehouse” advertising campaign can be found on the home page of the online music store. In addition, Amy Winehouse is featured on the Amazon MP3 store. Furthermore, Microsoft posted the following promotional tweet on Twitter:

After several fans reacted negatively to the post, Microsoft tweeted, “Apologies to everyone if our earlier Amy Winehouse ‘download’ tweet seemed purely commercially motivated…Far from the case, we assure you.”

Now, when does one cross the line from giving people what they want and what is trending to attempting to capitalize on an artist’s death? What do you think of the promotional Amy Winehouse campaigns? Do you have a copy of Back To Black? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter.
