Google Shutting Down Adsense for Feeds, +1 Reports In Webmaster Tools, Classic Plus, Spreadsheet Gadgets, Places For Android And Picasa Is Going To Google Drive:
Google is getting ready to shutdown a few more services that have not garnered a large following. On Friday, the company announced it was getting rid of a few products namely Adsense for Feeds, +1 reports in Webmaster Tools, Classic Plus, Spreadsheet Gadgets, Places for Android and will make Picasa a part of Google Drive. Google will also merge Insights for Search into Google Trends.
Google is always good at outreach when it comes to changes like these or updates to its algorithm like Panda. Google knows users hate to go to a service and see it’s gone without any notice. But why is Google making the changes? Probably to reduce clutter and maintenance for items nobody was really using. Google recently got rid of its first shot at social networking called Google Buzz and they are slated to get rid of iGoogle in November which we were big fans of. That may be the problem, Google wants to consolidate offerings as opposed to having way too many that only a few people like and use often like we did iGoogle.
Most of the items on the Google “spring cleaning” list won’t be missed and have equivalents that the company offers elsewhere. This is part of the ‘gales of creative destruction’ that are necessary for internet-mobile-social media companies to overcome in order to survive. Google has just celebrated its 14-year birthday and the company’s history is filled with hits and misses. The goal is to keep the hits going and reduce the frequency of misses so the ‘spring cleaning’ helps the company move forward.
