New Post-iPhone 5 Google Maps App Released With Street View, Transit and Turn-By-Turn Directions:
The iPhone 5 debacle has ended. Or did it ever really begin? Apple iPhone 5 users have been impressed with the new smartphone, particularly the size, but the biggest complaint was about the new mapping platform. Apple opted to go with its own technology instead of using Google Maps and immediately there was a public outcry against the changes. Most of the outrage over the iPhone 5’s new maps was a bit overdone along with some well placed PR, but there were some true issues that caught Apple by surprise such as missing landmarks and prominent buildings. No worries however. The problem has been solved.
Google has just released the latest version of its popular mapping mobile app for iPhone and it’s already getting rave reviews due to the new features which include turn-by-turn directions, street view and transit maps. The transit maps feature will be very useful for urban dwellers with no car and the street view will help people easily find where they are -or are going. iPhone 5 has Siri for turn-by-turn directions and after using it dozens of times already, it’s pretty good.
Google and Apple would have eventually parted ways with or without the Apple starting its own mapping program. Notice how the YouTube app doesn’t come installed with the new iPhone 5 either? It’s okay for both companies to separate and keep challenging each other. Besides, Google has Android so Apple needs to compete in the same arena by controlling as much of its ecosystem as possible. In the end, the consumer gets a better deal on a more robust product.
